Realistic Dating Advice

Most mainstream dating books start out by telling people what they want to hear. They flatter you and tell you that change is easy, and resist the urge to challenge your view of the world. Regardless of gender, people overwhelmingly prefer to be told what they want to hear rather than the truth. In "It's Your Move", Nick takes the opposite approach - he starts by establishing his credibility by explaining Love Systems and what Love Systems is about, but then goes stright on to tell women what we've learned: what their REAL attraction switches are.

Now, if you've been in the game as long as I have, you know that some women don't take kindly to being told that they really don't go for "nice guys" and that what they're looking for is strength, status, social intelligence and the other attraction switches that we teach. Often their gut reaction is to argue, or to insist that the way they pick guys is through some sort of magical "chemistry" that defies description. But Nick Savoy does a good job of making his case, and even cites a half dozen studies. (Since when do dating books have citations?) In any case, Nick starts with a bold move by advocating some mainstream "Game" ideas up front to his reader.

Anyway, for the brave, insightful or open-minded reader who gets past the initial shock of not having her prejudices confirmed, the book starts getting into the nitty gritty of how to get a guy. This is where I think most women will get the most value, and where the book really shines.

Just like Love Systems for men, the system is ethical, but realist. There's no trickery or dishonesty, just a recognition that dating is a bit more complicated than "just be yourself and you'll meet the right person", combined with some real, practical, applicable advice that you can put into use right away. Most of these are similar to what we teach men.

Here are just a few examples of useful techniques from It's Your Move:

Guide men with compliments. For example, if you want your guy to act like a gentleman, compliment him for being a gentleman, and you'll get more of that behavior. (I use this on women with great results)
Use Eye contact to get men to "Open" you. Or open them yourself!
The Eye Contact Seduction Stare: An eye contact technique that generates attraction and keeps guys guessing. (This works on me!)
How to be a challenge without putting him off (as a man I think women really need to read this!)
How to tell when men are lying using Nick Savoy's Lie Detector Test.

Honestly, I think this book is revolutionary, but it might be ahead of its time. It challenges the conventional narrative of how relationships work. It's focused on relationships but it's also talks about hookups, one night stands, and all the other things that real women do and often enjoy, but don't often talk about. It ignores the political correctness, moralism, and the feminist perspective that dominates most information that women get about sex. It cites studies and evidence rather than telling people what they want to hear.

As a guy who has been around the block more than a few times (and has helped other guys do the same), I can tell you that all the advice in It's Your Move rings true. I would recommend it to any woman I knew who was looking to improve the quality of the guys she dates.

But the question is.

I thought that this book was very tastefully done with the topic matter. Very realistic and humbling to read and take in. Applicable to todays dating scene. I have recommended this to others it was entertaining and shed some light on things that I had taken lightly before.

Finally...an useful "how-to-meet-men" Guide for women!

I read this before purchasing copies for my nieces..all fabulous young women who can’t seem to meet men who are up to their level. The book has an easy-to-read conversational quality, while providing some very practical advice. Savoy is a straight-shooter who lays out the man/woman dynamic in a clear, non-judgmental manner. My only complaint about the book is that he goes on a little too much about his expertise, but for others such a litany of credentials may be reassuring; I was quickly convinced. His advice is simple without being simplistic and he provides the necessary information to allow the reader to understand the reasoning behind his recommendations. Overall, this is a book that is long overdue and it will be very helpful to young women looking for Mr. “Right” (or even Mr. “Right Now”).

The best there is... but not perfect

Anyone who works on their own Saab should know that the Bentley manual is King. There's just not a better manual out there. However, even this book is lacking in a lot of ways. For one, it's not for the beginner or for someone who's afraid of messing up their car. This book assumes you have a fairly well-established knowledge of the car and skips a lot of details it assumes you'd know. A total novice would be lost with this book.
On the other hand, if you do know these cars pretty well, the Bentley manual can help fill in the blanks of a project you'd otherwise not want to do if you didn't have a little guidance. Not for the faint of heart though.

the good book

This book managed to teach me a great deal about my car that I was clueless on before. I highly recommend this book to anyone, from the beginner looking to understand how their car works to an intermediate grease monkey like myself.
The book is lacking a couple key areas, though. One is the drawings. The sketch drawings of a certain items/views are not very useful for identifying things (if you're just trying to get the lay of the land under the hood, the Bentley is little help when it comes to smaller components). These desperately need to be upgraded to photos, color, if possible. There's not a whole lot on the vacuum system except a schematic, ditto for a portion of the electrical system and also the A/C/vent system.
Some suggestions to improve the book: a complete breakdown of the car (seems some smaller items are left as an exercise for the reader, as was investigating a broken door latch on my 900), lots more photos, and COLOR!
The pros far outweigh the cons, though, and coupled with a good online help community like the Saab Network bulletin boards, there's very little you can't repair on your own with this book. A must have for anyone who wants to keep their 900's running.

Beyond Haynes, Beyond Chilton's, there is the Bentley Manual. Simply the best automotive repair manuals, the Bentley Bibles are worth their weight in gold. While not as photo-heavy as the Haynes manual, this is the MOST informative book I've found on working on Saab 900s. (The series is entirely fabulous, I own both the Saab and Volvo manuals, and they have saved me both time and money.) The Bentley Manual is simply the most thorough repair manual available.

Excellent undergradate transport text

I was introduced to this text as a supplemental source of information for a Transport Phenomena course with the Bird, et al text as the primary textbook. Although the Bird text is still the forerunner in this subject in my opinion, it can be a difficult text in the undergraduate setting. I found the Brodkey and Hershey text to be packed with valuable explanations and graphs that complement the Bird text. I do believe this text would be very good in the role as a primary undergraduate transport text, but I expect to see the use of the Bird text continue because of its quality and longevity in the field. Personally, I still refer to the Brodkey and Hershey text first, before I delve back into the harder to read Bird text.

Not Impressed

I purchased this book because I was hopeing for a supplemental text to Transport Phenomena by Bird and Lightfoot. Perhaps it was because my teacher structured the class different than how this author felt the class should have been structured the information in this book didn't really apply to my transport 1 class. I will give it another chance while I am in transport 2 but I doubt that this will be the wealth of information that I was hopeing it to be. It I suppose is worth a try if you have a teacher who is lacking and you don't immediatily understand the Transport phenomena main text.

Friendly for undergrads

There are not many transport phenomena textbooks, and few of them are "undergrad friendly". This is one of them. The textbook was designed to provide an integrated treatment of the three areas of transport: momentum, heat, and mass. Brodkey and Hershey succeed in explaining a very complex topic using a simple language and generalized flux, and property variables that easily unify the transport equations. The idea behind is that same equations have same solutions. Not complex examples found in the textbook. Easy to read and to follow.

About the Author
Patricia Hermes was born in 1936 in Brooklyn, New York. An avid reader, she had time to practice both reading and writing when she came down with rheumatic fever, which left her stuck in bed for months. Hermes majored in speech and English at St. John's University, and taught junior high school English and social studies before taking time off to raise her five children. Returning to teaching after a number of years, she found it less satisfying than she'd remembered, and decided to try her hand at writing for publication. She took a class in writing nonfiction for adults; the teacher, Russell Freedman, would go on to win the Newbery Medal.

After publishing some articles, Hermes found the niche she'd been looking for: her first novel for young readers, What If They Knew?, was published in 1980. Hermes gave the main character in the book epilepsy, a problem she had dealt with herself as a child. Readers responded well to the believable situation, and over the years Hermes has continued to write stories featuring youngsters in difficult situations, so that readers can turn to her books knowing they are not alone. She has written more than 20 books for children and young adults.

Patricia Hermes lives in Connecticut, where she spends four hours of the day writing and the rest editing her work and answering letters. When she is not writing, she enjoys reading, running, music, traveling, horseback riding, and playing the piano.

This seems to be a well written book and I understand that it is fiction meant to illustrate life in a new settlement but I think it should be known that there were not many women and girls in Jamestown until about 1620 when it was decided that the men needed wives to stabilize society.

Once I got this book I couldn't put it down. It was so interesting that I did not want to go to sleep. I liked it when Elizabeth had to hide her journal from her mom and that her mom had a baby.One day Elizabteth asked Captin Jonh Smith to say hi to her brother Caleb.Whenever I read an interesting book,like this one, I never let it go until I finish it.I hope you read this book one day.

I like this book because it is based on a true story about a girl named Elizabeth and her family at war. Her brother and father get dragged in to the war by some soldiers. Elizabeth gets very worried about her brother and father because they do not come back until a while.

Hayder A. Rasheed is a professor and Thomas and Connie Paulson outstanding civil engineering faculty member at Kansas State University, Manhattan, USA. Previously, he was an assistant professor at Bradley University, Peoria, Illinois, USA. He holds a BS and MS from the University of Baghdad, Iraq, and a Ph.D from the University of Texas at Austin, USA. He is an ASCE fellow, registered professional engineer, author and co-author of 3 books and more than 50 refereed journal publications, and editorial board member of the International Journal of Structural Stability and Dynamics and the Open Journal of Composite Materials.

I am a structural engineer working in the New York City. I got the book this spring in order to better understand FRP design and construction in existing building renovation. This book is well-written, easy to follow and there are a lot of analysis and design examples in this book. This book is not only the state-of-the-art FRP academic researches, but also a good reference book for practitioners for practical FRP-based building renovation design.

The textbook does a great job of explaining the state of the practice, and explains the theory behind the strengthening of reinforced concrete with FRP well. Numerous analysis and design procedures and examples make it an excellent resource for practicing engineers.

Nostalgia vs Accuracy

I owned this book as a child, and was sad to learn that it had been discarded during a move. When I found it via a link from the internet I was super excited and ordered it right away. The images are beautiful and while some of the data has changed over the past 20 years I think its still a great reference that people of all ages can still enjoy.

If you like your dino books with a vintage look and smell this one won't dissapoint.

Beautiful Dinosaur Art

When I was a child in grade school, a schoolmate had this book and I fell in love with it because I loved, and still love, dinosaurs. Now, at 51, I finally own this book myself. It's amazing that this book had such a hold on me all through the years since my childhood but such is the power of the illustrator and his beautiful dinosaur art.

Great book and introduction to dinosaurs

I've had this book for 30+ years. Loved it as a kid, came acrossed it recently in a box. Got it out and have reading it to my six year old son. Brings back great memories and I hope it creates memories for my boy.

"It is impossible here," an Indian character tells his friend, Dr. Aziz, early in the novel. "They come out intending to be gentlemen, and are told it will not do.... Why, I remember when Turton came out first. It was in another part of the Province. You fellows will not believe me, but I have driven with Turton in his carriage--Turton! Oh yes, we were once quite intimate. He has shown me his stamp collection.

"He would expect you to steal it now. Turton! But red-nosed boy will be far worse than Turton!

"I do not think so. They all become exactly the same, not worse, not better. I give any Englishman two years, be he Turton or Burton. It is only the difference of a letter. And I give any Englishwoman six months. All are exactly alike." Forster's finest novel, but this electronic version is plagued with scanning transcription errors.

In many ways this is my favorite of Forster's novels. His ironic narrative style is never better, starting with describing Chandrapore as "Edged rather than washed by the river Ganges..." The characters are complex and variable people who often despite their own better instincts are impelled and animated by external forces. Forster does an exceptional job of portraying the divisions that define daily life in inter-War India. There are difficult divisions between the ruling British and their Indian subjects; between Muslims and Hindus; and between the various social castes within each of the groups. Nearly 100 years later, it's a sobering perspective on the Subcontinent.

Unfortunately, this scanned digital edition contains dozens of OCR typographical errors that even a cursory proofreading could have corrected. "The" is repeatedly rendered as "tile" and many other issues, and the effect is very distracting. Hopefully the publishers will see fit to correct the transcription errors in this outstanding novel.

Avoid this version

Avoid this edition. As mentioned in another review, this is a poor version. The strangest thing of all is that what appears to be the introduction is actually a very negative commentary about the book. This "introduction" essentially says this a bad book and not worth reading. I got a refund, but it would probably be best if Amazon removed the item completely.

Don't Pass this Great Story by because of Poor Digitalizing and Don't bother with the Intro!

This is hoping to not scare people away from this great book….
A Passage to India

YES, this book has significant problems in it’s digitalized form, but if it is the ONLY way you can read it….skip the intro and read the story in a spirit of forgiveness for the poor format.
By all means if you can find a better copy, do so;

But do not miss Forster’s insightful story-telling that gives so much understanding to the human experience of colonialism (both from the English side and the Indian side).

Fascinating insight into colonialism and English-Indian relationships through very personal encounters. The microcosm of the story will give you layer after layer of understanding into this period in history. If you watched the movie Ghandi and think you ‘know’ enough about colonial India, you have cheated yourself. Getting to know the characters Dr Aziz, Cyril Fielding, Mrs. Moore, Ronny Heaslop and Narayan Godbole gives clarity to the “muddle” that is colonialism.
And BTW, if you have seen the movie you have not experienced ‘A Passage to India’. Yes, the events follow very closely the book, but it is missing the soul of the STORY.
